Packed with nutrients and associated with numerous health and beauty perks, coconut oil is one of the latest wonder products causing a stir across the world. Given its potential benefits, which include increased energy and weight loss, it’s not surprising the seemingly magic and incredibly versatile potion – which can be used for cooking, added to drinks, or applied as a moisturiser and hair serum – is a must-have for the kitchen and bathroom shelves.
Perfect for pampering your pooch
But did you know coconut oil is a fantastic choice for pets, too, especially dogs? Coconut oil contains totally natural ingredients that help improve your canine companion’s health, looks and, ultimately, happiness.
The magic ingredient
Coconut oil contains saturated fat. Once a watchword for being bad for our health, the saturated fat in coconut oil is extremely good for us, thanks to its unique combination of fatty acids, called Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs). This means that when we – and our dogs – consume MCTs, they help speed up metabolic rates, aiding weight loss, and ultimately increasing energy levels and vitality. And with the digestive system supported, the body’s ability to absorb nutrients is increased.
Bountiful benefits
Coconut oil also protects from illness by fighting bacterial and fungal infections, and assisting the body’s natural repairing process, for example by helping wounds heal and bites and insect stings clear up fast, when applied topically. The gorgeously scented product improves a dog’s skin and coat, adding gloss and shine, and can reduce or eliminate bad breath. It reduces allergic reactions and helps treat infections such as candida; helps clear up skin conditions such as canine eczema; and improves overall skin health. Coconut oil helps prevent diabetes by regulating and balancing insulin. Other benefits include the promotion of brain health, normal thyroid function, and cardiovascular health.
So as well as reaping the many benefits of coconut oil yourself, why not keep an extra jar next to your dog’s tinned food and biscuits too? Add a teaspoon to their daily meal and you’ll soon notice an improvement in their health and happiness.
