You might already know that coconut oil is delicious to eat and good for your health to boot. What is less well known is that it can strengthen and nourish your hair, so your locks can look as good as you feel. Below are just a few of the ways coconut oil can help transform your tresses:
1. Coconut oil as conditioner
The high fat content of coconut oil means it deeply nourishes hair and skin, and can penetrate more deeply than other conditioners. Melted coconut oil massaged on to your hair will help banish split ends and give your locks a healthy glow. The longer you leave it on, the better the results, so take some time to relax before shampooing it out, and rinsing thoroughly.
2. Untangling long locks
If you have long or curly hair, tangles can become the bane of your life. Running a little melted coconut oil through your hair can be a gentle way of banishing those pesky knots.
3. Show dandruff the door
The nourishing properties of coconut oil can make an itchy, flaky scalp a thing of the past. Simply massage melted coconut oil onto your scalp, wrap your hair in a towel or shower cap, and leave to do its thing, ideally overnight. You may wish to rinse your hair the following morning to remove any lingering flakes of skin.
4. Thicker hair
The exceptional nourishment provided by coconut oil means it can make hair appear thicker and healthier. Applying melted coconut oil to your scalp and leaving overnight can enhance the appearance of your hair and give the appearance of thicker, more healthy looking locks.
5. Protect against sun damage
We all love the healthy glow that comes from enjoying the sunshine but unfortunately the UV rays from the sun can have a damaging effect on our hair. If you know your tresses will be particularly exposed to the effect of the sun, protect against potential damage by gently massaging melted coconut oil onto your hair, then brushing and styling as usual.
